Given his momentum under the GCW banner, it was only a matter of time until the former ROH World Television Champion found himself challenging for heavyweight title gold. Among the names he’s picked up victories over are Dark Sheik, “Speedball” Mike Bailey, Biff Busick, and Psicosis. Throughout 2022, he’s won the majority of his matches in the company. It should come as little surprise that Deppen has found himself in this GCW World Championship match. This Saturday, Moxley makes his fourth title defense against Deppen. Nonetheless, when he’s announced for a show, interest in said show increases as a result. Having held the gold for nearly 300 days, one would look at this number and deem it low, believing that the world champion should be more prevalent at GCW events than he currently is. Since then, “Mox” successfully defended the title three times. Moxley captured the GCW World Championship this past September, besting Matt Cardona in an impromptu match at The Art of War Games.
In the main event of GCW You Wouldn’t Understand, Jon Moxley puts the company’s world title on the line against Tony Deppen in a first-time match. Whether they’re taking to the skies or coming at each other with strikes, expect Homicide and Reefer to put on a show this Saturday evening. This isn’t to take away from Reefer’s accomplishments, however, even becoming one of FTW’s most decorated stars as a 5x Gen-X Champion and 3x World Heavyweight Champion for the company. He’s also proven himself as both a capable tag team and singles wrestler, which speaks volumes about his versatility. During “The Notorious 187’s” career, he’s captured gold in IMPACT Wrestling, Ring of Honor, and most recently, the National Wrestling Alliance, just to name a few organizations. Longtime and new fans of the indie scene in New York are in for a treat when Homicide and Reefer share the ring one more time.įrom a pure accolade standpoint, one would have to give the advantage to Homicide. As far back as 2003, these two men shared wrestling rings in the Tri-State Area, working for such organizations as Now You Create, Fight the World Wrestling, and Jersey Championship Wrestling prior to its rebirth as GCW. At GCW You Wouldn’t Understand, these two New York-born veterans of the squared circle face off in their latest singles encounter. New York has produced a number of notable independent wrestlers, and when it comes to veterans of the region, one would be hard-pressed to find two as gritty and hard-hitting as Homicide and Grim Reefer. Despite the claim that one should “bet on Mack,” it’s vital that he keep said confidence in check, lest Evans make his return a success at the “Kamikaze’s” expense. This tour has undoubtedly bolstered Mack’s confidence, which should be a great benefit heading into GCW You Wouldn’t Understand. From late April to early May, he worked with notable NOAH stars including YO-HEY, Kaito Kiyomiya, and Naomichi Marufuji.
